After choosing your gym type, you will have the option to select your starter from a list of three Pokemon. The Nature, Ability and stats of your starter will always be the same, though the characteristic and gender are random (in most cases).

With the exception of Ralts and Eevee, the starters you leave behind are not available to catch in game. Some, like Aron and Misdreavus, have regional variants, with the starter being the only way to get the original version of a Pokemon.

Caution: Once you select a type you cannot change it, even if you haven't selected a starter yet. To change your selected type you must restart the game.
